Our mission

The #WelcomeAll Stirling business pledge aims to celebrate diversity and inclusion within the local Stirling business community and promote Stirling as an economically vibrant town where people are free of discrimination.

Some background...

Stirling University LGBTQ+ Society wants all members to feel safe and welcomed within their local community. At the heart of Stirling is our local businesses, where people work and socialise. We firmly believe our city thrives when we work together to create an inclusive and united network of local businesses.

We want the #WelcomeAll pledge to develop connections between LGBTQ+ people and local businesses in Stirling, creating a more open business environment we can all enjoy.

Some statistics...

  • Analysis by Stonewall found that more than a third of LGBTQ+ people (36 per cent) say they don’t feel comfortable walking down the street while holding their partner’s hand. This increases to three in five for gay men (58 per cent).

  • Stonewall also found in 2018 that one in six LGBTQ+ people (17 per cent) who visited a café, restaurant, bar or nightclub had been discriminated against based on their sexual orientation and/or gender identity – this situation has unlikely improved.

  • LGBTQ+ customers are often very brand loyal, choosing companies they view to be more LGBTQ+ friendly. According to a survey by Harris Interactive, 87 per cent of LGBTQ+ adults would consider purchasing from a brand that provided equal workplace benefits. Furthermore, the survey found that 23 per cent of LGBTQ+ adults have switched products or services because another business is more supportive of the LGBTQ+ community.
